Military Care Package Drive

December 13, 2023

Greetings Michigan Tech and Keweenaw community,

Young Americans for Freedom at Michigan Tech thanks you for your generosity towards their first-ever Military Care Package Drive. On Tuesday, December 5th, 57 12x12x6 packages, weighing a collective 435 pounds, and containing around 400 letters, were shipped to service members overseas. Our organization wanted to give special thanks to:

  • Matt’s Auto Body and Glass, Superior Family Chiropractic, and Van Pelt and Opie Library for being community drop-off locations
  • ShipThrifty co-founder Michelle Williamson for her expert advice regarding shipping, customs, and the use of ShipThrifty’s online platform
  • UP Munch-eeze for their wonderful donation of freeze-dried Rainbow Brights
  • Walmart Houghton and Chassell VFW for their generous support
  • Mr. Hauswirth & Hancock Middle School, Barkell Elementary School, Church of the Resurrection in Hancock, and UP Patriots members for their plentiful donations

As well as the numerous other community organizations and members which helped spread the word and donate towards the cause. Young Americans for Freedom plans to turn the collection drive into an annual event, and looks forward to working with the community in the future.

Thank you for supporting our service members this holiday season!

Sincerely,
Abigail Leagjeld, Andrew Feys, and the YAF at Michigan Tech Students
